hey new york city, i need a job I can't seem to fall asleep and I know the reason why! Everything seems to be falling into place for my planned move to NYC except for one thing: I need a job!
I have friends who are willing to let me either move into a new place with them or fill the room in their slightly less expensive current place that they're moving out of (which is in a house with some other people that I know as well). I have some cash saved up and have some more coming to me between now and October. So I should be okay if I absolutely have to float for a month or two, but I really feel like having some sort of employment lined up is kind of essential. I've been applying for a lot of jobs via the internet, but so far have had no luck. I've been told before that it's pretty much impossible to get a job down there unless you have a NYC address on your resume. I don't know how true that is, but I'm going to start putting a friend's address in NYC down instead of my own here in Syracuse, just in case.
Anyways, if you're in or near NYC and know of anyplace at all that might be looking to hire a friendly creative young guy with a degree in illustration, plenty of professional illustration/visual arts experience, and some retail experience, please please please let me know or point me in the right direction! An art-related job is not at all required, I'll take anything, but if you do know of one that has an opening, you get bonus points. Other fun facts: I am good at making/building/creating things, kids always seem to enjoy my company and I do have some experience working with them, I have a tiny bit of self taught screen printing experience, I feel I am pretty knowledgeable when it comes to movies, comics, books, and music.
Help! This has been keeping me awake at night for some time now.

“Strategic Alliance” ~ US and Iraq In spite of the Bush Administrations attempts to keep up the appearance that the Iraqi Government welcomes the continued presence of US troops indefinitely, members of the Iraqi Parliament have made numerous attempts to assert the independence of Iraq. Never has this been more obvious than in recent months where Iraqi leaders have made both public and written statements opposing the continued US presence in their country. Iraqi’s themselves have long been opposed the presence of US troops, largely because they are seen as a destabilizing factor. According to a recent BBC/ABC poll, 69% of Iraqis believe that the security situation in Baghdad will improve or at least stay the same with the withdraw of US troops.

From jocelyncee The Big Read reckons that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed." 1) Look at the list and bold those you have read. 2) Italicize those you intend to read. 3) Underline the books you LOVE. 4) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them ;-) WATCHING MOVIES DOES NOT COUNT!!! more comics-procrastination: obsessions of the now • Love Roma. Very sappy and adorable and simple comic by Toyoda Minoru, and eek it is wonderful. First picked up the first volume back in SG out of interest and now I must collect the whole series - his writing is very simple and brilliant and I love his characters and how he manages to put so much fun detail in his sometimes simple art. (Playing Hunt the SCD in some of the chapters is great fun) Have also been studying his panelling techniques with great glee too. I'm not looking forward to reading all the stories because then it means I won't have any more to read...but oh, I will re-read and re-read the volumes until they wither away in confusion and vanish and then I will cry my eyes out because I have no more Love Roma. • Princess Maker 5. Still. I've been playing this game for a while and am yet to actually finish a game...although I thought I was going to today. (insert dum de DUUUUUUUM horror fanfare) Okay, so normally with the Princess Maker games, you play until your daughter's 18th birthday and then you kick your sweet child of 8 years out into the Big Bad World and read about what happens in the papers. (Unless you marry her, then I suspect you hear about her day every day, only not really because you're just paying attention to her breasts or something.) So I reached my daughter's 18th birthday (she's a November baby) with a bit of motherly concern and...nothing - she just kept going. Hell, she's got a Christmas dateplanned now. And her planner is still working and ready til March of the following year. CUE THE WORLD ENDING. I can't find anything about it in the manual but admittedly my Chinese is not great. I'm not sure if I need a patch or the game plays til (what I presume is) the end of the school year, but I'm going to keep playing til I get bored because I've been meaning to start a new character soon. Although the game does take, um, quite a while to get through. But at least there's no fricking PM2 Dance Competition scene. Magazine illos http://chriswahlart.blogspot.com/2008/07/magazine-illos.html Waaay way back in December 06 I posted a piece for a magazine article about the perils of illustration and fussy clients. Well it's finally getting published in Australian Creative magazine, along with the article written by the multitalented Matt Jackson. Here are two new spot illustrations which are accompanying the main illo in the article. Once again exploring the problems of fussy clients, the power of the almighty dollar to buy the artist's ability to think for themselves, and the 'bastard child' that your artwork becomes when clients interfere unnecessarily. |

HYPERACTIVE For QUITE some time now I've been working on this book with writer Scott Christian Sava. I'm doing the artwork for the book and up until recently I was lettering it too. I think I'm a control freak. I dumped the daily grind so I could complete the book in a timely manner, but I'm still too slow it seems. I hope the project doesn't get pulled out from under me because I decided to take on too much.
I've been given permission to show some pages to you folks on my LJ. I'll post every now and again to show you what kind of progress I'm making on it.
Miss ya! Joseph B # 3 |

In Defense of a Boy Wonder. Okay, there is a lot of smack being said around the interwebs this week about how you can't introduce Robin into the current Batman film franchise. That's ridiculous. As Dick Grayson is actually one of my favorite superheroes in all of comicdom, I feel like I should help out here, offering my own take on how to bring Robin into the current franchise. It's a grimmer reality Nolan's set up here, so let's stick with that. Imagine all the currently established actors, and this should all work fine. For Robin, remember the kid that played young Bruce? He'll do for now. (For more on the awesomeness of Robin, please check out Robin: Year One, by Chuck Dixon, Scott Beatty, Javier Pulido, Robert Campanella, and Lee Loughridge. Grab the issues rather than the trade, if you can. The paper's nicer.) |

blah blah blah..I've come to suck your blood. I'm listening to triple j with headphones and it shits me when they play a song and it starts out loud, and they fuck with the volume level. Like "Oh no, that's loud, I better quickly turn it down, then slowly fade it back up".. We have fucken volume controls here. I choose how loud I want my music. Nobody should dictate what my '11' is. Is anyyone else as dissapointed as me Erica Campbell found religion? No probly not. She was my first porn crush when I bought that first High Society all those many years ago. Seriously, who buys a chocolate moove and skin mag from a servo.. Anyway, Keep the bibles away from Aria Giovanni or I'm likely to go on a killing spree. How stupid is my wanting to see the Love Guru just for that scene of Mike Myer's head on a kid's body. The internet tells me it's shite, and anything with justin timberlake is, so I'll avoid even if it has The Alba. Poor Mike Myers..what happened? I mean, I watched 'So I Married An Axe Murderer' a while back and still giggled my tits off. Which reminds me..does anyone else confuse the plot of 'studio 55' and 'boogie nights' sometimes? Been visiting chat rooms again cause I'm a masochist like that. Here's my impression of every argument in a chat room- guy: I like stuff. dude: I like things better. guy: fuck you, stuff is better. dude: shut the fuck up, fag guy: you're probly a nigger. dude: I fucked you mother, faggot. guy: nigger nigger nigger nigger dude: faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag ..etc, etc What ever happened to barkley on sesame street? This posts sucks, so to make it up to you for reading this tripe.. |

good good good part 1 So over the past month or so I've read loads and loads of books and mini comics. I came home from MoCCA with a pretty big haul and then shortly after that I got a bunch of books at a book sale and at a used book store on the way down to Ithaca one day. I want to spread some love around and mention all the good stuff I've read lately! Current Music: The Apples In Stereo - 7 Stars |

... In contrast to the horrible thug Phil that I drew yesterday, I had to draw a nice little picture of myself for something that I will tell you guys about later whenever the cat finds his way out of the bag. I just finished practicing with the band and it was one of the best practices we've ever had. We all felt really good on every song and Tyler only broke one string on his guitar. I'm looking forward to the show on the 12th! We've also got a few other shows lined up this summer, I'll have flyers to show you for those as they get closer. biro sketch "Well, if crime fighters fight crime and fire fighters fight fire, what do freedom fighters fight? They never mention that part to us, do they?" - George Carlin I also wanted to draw Stan Winston but couldn't find a decent sized pic of him. Two great bearded gents whose minds had a great influence on the world, even if just for entertainment purposes.
P.S. Thank fucking christ for photoshop to tweak eye size and positioning of bits and peices. P.P.S. this is exactly the same size as it is on paper. So there ya go, little extra tidbit. |

Ask not... …what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man. ~John F. Kennedy January 20, 1961 Close to two decades after this speech was made the concept of American self-sacrifice took hold in the form of a speech delivered by then president, Jimmy Carter. On April 18, 1977, Carter had an open and honest discussion with the American people about the ensuing energy crisis that would threaten our national security and well-being as a nation. He warned us that in this century the energy crisis would likely get “progressively worse” and that, “we must balance our demand for energy with our rapidly shrinking resources.” |
