I'm not dead - just dead tired. Sorry for neglecting you again LJ! But here's a bit of an update on what I've been up to in no particular order :
BABY - Hamish is good. Though this lack of sleep thing is taking a bit of a toll on his long suffering parents. He's six weeks old today.
KID - Phoebe starting her first year of school on Thursday. She's coping better than Kylie and I.
WORK - Because we need the cash I've been working full-time in non comic related fields. I'm still with the Needle and Syringe program in the evening and I'm working with homeless peeps with the Salvo's during the day.
COMICS - Not getting much done due to lack of time and sleep deprivation. But my plan is to keep slogging away when I can.
ART THERAPY - And just to add to the craziness that is my life I've enrolled in a course to become an Art Therapist. This is something I think I could really enjoy. |

Unto us a child is born Kylie gave birth to our son, 'Hamish Jack Rankine' on Saturday the 22nd (Right on the due date). He was 6 pound 3 ounces. Mum and baby are doing well. And his big sister is stoked. They came home from the hospital yesterday so the sleepless nights have all ready begun. All in all though he's a pretty neat Christmas present. |

The Rankine Road Trip Okay. It's not really a road trip 'cause I'm flying (but I do have to drive to the airport). Regardless, I'm off to Sydney tomorrow. From Wed-Fri I'm at the ANIMAX35 workshop - http://www.animax35.org/ where I think I might be presenting some stuff. Then on the weekend I'll be at Artist Alley in Supanova. brand new comics ahead of me in Sydney. First, is a compilation of a bunch of my weirder faith-based stories. Under the title, 'God's Love is Like a Conjoined Twin' - And the other one is issue 2 of the, 'Pulp Crucifiction' anthology - So if you're at Sydney come down to Artist Alley and say hi. And if you give me money I'll give you a comic (or even 2)! |

Online petition for Burma Following is a bit of social-conscious-spam : 'Burma is ruled by one of the worst military dictatorships in the world. This week Buddhist monks and nuns began marching and chanting prayers to call for democracy. The protests spread and hundreds of thousands of Burmese people joined in -- they've been brutally attacked by the military regime, but still the protests are spreading. I just signed a petition calling on Burma's powerful ally China and the UN security council to step in and pressure Burma's rulers to stop the killing. The petition has exploded to over 200,000 signatures in a few days and is being advertised in newspapers around the world, delivered to the UN secretary general, and broadcast to the Burmese people by radio. We're trying to get to 1 million signatures this week, please sign below and tell everyone!' http://www.avaaz.org/en/stand_with_burma/tf.php?CLICK_TF_TRACK |

Bash My ability to regularly draw comics is about to take a pretty serious hit. With Kylie being pregnant it means I'm going to have to do something terrifying. That's right! I have to get a real job! So I'll stick with the Needle and Syringe Program three evenings a week still. And I'm also currently going for a job with the Salvos in a housing commission area that's not too far away for 3 days a week (Please pray that I'm able to get it). My plan is to then draw when I can the rest of the time (between changing nappies that is). In the meantime here's a comic I did a couple of weeks ago - http://www.webcomicsnation.com/deanrankine/christmasbash/ |

O.D day Went to the church ceremony for National Overdose Day here in Frankston today. I've been involved in different ways with it over a few years now. Each year it's always been good and this year was no exception. It's kind of a nice way for people who've lost friends and loved ones to drug overdose to publicly remember them. And hopefully to help in the grieving/healing process. |

Building Bridges I ran an art group today as part of a 'creative day' for the Building Bridges program. The program is made up of high school students from Jewish, Muslim and Christian schools. The students have been meeting together on a regular basis to get to know each other and see what they have in common. And, in the process, dispel some of the myths and misassumptions that they might of had. It was pretty cool. |
